How to apply for an Indian E Visa for US Citizens

The new E-Visa (also known as an ETA (electronic travel authority) is the cheapest, quickest and easiest way to get an Indian visa for US Citizens and is good for trips up to 60 days. The E-visa has sometimes been described as a ‘visa on arrival’ but you must still apply for the visa in advance before you travel.

Citizens from 161 countries are eligible to apply online for an E Tourist Visa to India, including citizens of the USA, Canada, UK and Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and many European Countries. At first the ETA was only valid for 30 days.

The cost for an E-Visa for India depends on your nationality. The cost for an Indian E-visa for US citizens. The application process is fully online, and you can apply a minimum of 4 days before your arrival date in India. However, E Visas are NOT extendable or convertible and you can only apply for an E-Visa twice per year.

You can enter India on an E Visa at 24 airports and 3 seaports; Cochin, Goa and Mangalore. The E-visa has three subcategories; e-Tourist Visa, e-Business Visa and e-Medical Visa. Double entry is permitted on E-Tourist Visa and E-Business Visa. Triple Entry is allowed for E-Medical visa.

How to apply for an Indian E Visa online:
You can apply for an E Visa to India on the government website at Indian E Tourist Visa. The process is fully online and your visa will be emailed to you but you need to make sure that a printed copy of your visa approval must be with you when you arrive in India. The visa will then be affixed to your passport at the airport when you arrive in India.

As the process is fully online (i.e. you are not required to send off your passport and wait for 2 weeks for the visa to be processed like you do with the longer term visas) the E-Visa makes planning a holiday to India so much quicker and easier.

However, bear in mind that applying for the E Visa can still be quite confusing as there is still a lot of paperwork to fill out and the forms ask you a lot of questions. You also need to make sure the photo you upload meets the specific requirements. Plus, the fee for the visa and for processing of the application are non-refundable, even if the visa is not granted, so if you make a mistake on the forms you could be rejected and has to apply and pay again.

Longer Term Indian Visas for US Citizens:
While most nationalities apply for 6 or 12 month Indian visa, US citizens are lucky are as we can apply for a 5 or 10-year multiple entry tourist visa for India. These two options come with multiple entries, which will be helpful if you travel frequently across Asia and plan for different visits to India. As with any visa application, there is no guarantee that the visa will be granted. Should the visa be refused, there will be no refund of the visa fees.

The passport must be valid for 6 months at the time of visa application. The Passport must have at least 2 blank Visa pages available for India Visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Indian Visa.

How to Apply U.S Citizens for Indian Visa | Indian E Tourist Visa

It’s during the holiday season, and you are probably looking forward to that vacation in the Goa. It could even be that work errand to or from India you need to get too urgently, and you are wondering how to get a visa without a tussle.

In the 21st century acquiring a visa has been made easy. You could apply for it online, by mail or by reporting directly to their offices. Payments for visas have also changed through time. Now you may use Visa tokens to pay for your visa. There are several requirements you will need to fulfill to obtain your entry visa.

Requirements Set by the India Visa:

Passport:

You will require an original signed passport and a photocopy of passport information. The passport should be valid for six months beyond your stay in India, and it should be signed.

Indian visa application forms:
You must have a signed Indian visa application form. Have an extra copy as well just in case need arises. Your signature on both the Visa application form and passport must match. Remember to sign on both pages of your visa application form.

Photograph:
For your Indian e Visa enquiry you will need a recent colored 2×2 passport type photo with a plain background. You should not wear sunglasses when the photo is taken. The photo should not be stapled to the application either. Alternatively you can upload your passport photo to the Global Service Order Form instead of providing physical photos.

An Additional particulars form:
This is just a fill-out form on other important information to verify your identity as being legitimately your own. Preferably avoid the use of the term ‘N/A’ in questions that do not apply.

Proof of residential address:
Here you will have to provide a clear photo of your drivers’ license or state issued ID. The address should match exactly your present address on the visa card. Alternatively, a recent major utility bill like on electricity, gas, water, sewage or a current lease containing both the tenant and landlord may be accepted.

Letter of invitation from India:
In case you are coming to India for a company job, a letter of invitation from the Host Company or individual explaining their relationship to you as the applicant is important. The purpose of the travel should also be stated. The letter must be signed and sealed on company letterhead by the host in India. As a measure of being on the safe side, you may include the business cover letter.

Business letter:
A letter from your employer or sponsoring company from outside the country introducing you, the applicant, is important. The letter should include the applicants’ employment status in the company and a clearly stated purpose of going to India.

A tourist visa on arrival scheme exists currently for nationals of listed counties. Here you can apply for and receive the visa on arrival to the country. This visa is only valid for 30 days, and can only be used for tourism purposes.

As soon as you submit your visa application form you will receive a receipt number that allows you to track the progress of the processing of your e-Tourist Visa. It takes a minimum of 4 working days to get e-Tourist Visa approval. Once you receive a confirmation email with the approval of your application form you must print a copy and keep it with you at all times during your trip to India.

How to Apply for Indian Tourist Visa from USA | Tips and Requirements

If a trip to India is approaching and time is in short supply, apply online at the Indian E Tourist Visa website for an e-Visa. United States citizens must have a valid passport and visa to visit this vast, diverse, ancient country and it takes a minimum of four days for the visa application to process. Once granted, an e-Visa is valid for 60 days after the arrival date. However, beware of scam websites that charge much more than the Indian Government's official visa application rate and may not supply you with a visa.

Applying for a visa to a foreign country can be a daunting task. It’s enough to make some of us not want to travel or look at destinations that offer visas on arrival! The United States of America (USA) has a stringent visa application process. It involves many steps but the good news is that it’s not impossible to do if you follow the instructions carefully. We hope to simplify the process for you so here’s your USA visa go-to guide.

Visa Type

Before you begin your application process, you’ll need to know which visa category you’re applying for. While the list of both non-immigrant and immigrant categories is fairly exhaustive, the most common visa category for tourists and general visitors to USA is B1/B2 or Business or Tourist visa as they’re popularly known.

Documents Required Applying for a USA Visa

Before you begin the process of filling up the B1/B2 Visa application form, make sure you have the following documents readily available – passport, travel itinerary and details of previous international travels including to the USA, if applicable.

Important Note – When applying for any USA visa, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the proposed date you plan to enter. Your passport must also be devoid of any damage, which includes peeling and tears to any of the pages. Your application will not be considered if you don’t meet these requirements.

Government of India specifies certain conditions under which the visa application stands rejected:

ü  Valid details on the passport, incorrect photo uploads
ü  Wrong details entered for date of birth or name
ü  The validity of e-Visa will be 60 days from the date of arrival in India. Double entry is permitted on e-Tourist Visa and e-Business Visa. Triple entry will be permitted on e-Medical Visa.
ü  Applicant’s passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
ü  Visa fee once submitted is non-refundable as the fee is for processing the application whether or not the visa is granted or rejected
ü  E-Visa is allowed for a maximum of 2 visits per calendar year.
ü  On arrival in India applicants will need to carry their E-Visa along with the passport
ü  Electronic travel authorization does not entitle you for guaranteed entry into India, your entry can still be refused at the time of arrival.
